You Are Nature

Nurturing Wellness Inside and Out

Summary: We are nature; taking care of it is taking care of ourselves. Connecting with our bodies helps us recognize the same life force within and in nature, bringing a sense of vitality and truth. Community helps us co-regulate and sync with each other’s rhythms, vital for a long life.

The Great Outdoors

June is Great Outdoors Awareness Month in the US, and we at Olo want to highlight its significance because our vision is to connect more people with nature. We bring people to nature through our retreats, usually at Olo Center, and we bring nature to people through immersive somatic sound journey events and the Olo app.

The Importance of Connecting with Nature

Many of us have a distant relationship with nature, raising concerns beyond the environmental standpoint. It's also a problem of disembodiment and neglecting our biological/physical selves. Whether we want to or not, we are nature too. We're not only part of nature; we are nature. We're made of the same elements and decompose in the same ways. Taking care of nature is taking care of ourselves.

A Personal Journey of Embodiment

In my journey of reclaiming my body, of becoming more embodied, and being more myself, I started recognizing what I described above in a visceral way. I know it to be true in my bones.

I now understand that the same intelligence/energy/life force that lives inside me and all my cells is the same that is present in all of nature. I know this not only conceptually but because I have experienced it, and no, it wasn't during a psychedelic experience.

This experience is now always available to me. I feel it when I connect with the mere ecstasy of feeling alive inside my body.

The Truth In Our Bodies

When living or spending time in a city, it is ever more important to be aware of our bodies, as that is sometimes the only nature we have access to.

Yet sometimes, feeling our bodies means becoming aware of discomfort. The truth is that, in the long run, pushing away these sensations never works well. The more we ignore, the more we distance ourselves from our inner truth.

The Importance of Community

Feeling these sensations and feelings of discomfort alone—usually pain and anxiety—is scary. I know it well! But that's why community is so important. When we're together, we co-regulate together. We literally start syncing into each other's rhythms.

Did you know that social wellness is one of the most referred factors attributed to living a long life?

The Power of Authenticity & Acceptance

I'm prone to anxiety and have suffered tremendously from it in the past. I was also very ashamed of it and hid it from others as much as I could. It took a lot of bodywork sessions and embodiment practice hours to be where I am today. Now, I know from my personal experience and working with people's ailments since 2003 (yes, 20 years) that the strongest medicines are authenticity and the acceptance of what is.

Sound and Somatics for Therapists, Coaches and Health Practitioners (NYC)

Last Wednesday, we had the Sound & Somatics event for therapists, coaches, and healthcare practitioners in NYC, and I loved connecting with the 17 people who came to learn more about the topic. I feel so happy that Olo provides a safe space for authenticity and whatever emerges—recognizing what is happening inside us and reorganizing our nature. Keep an eye out for more in-person and online events coming soon!

Embrace nature this June, both around you and within you.
